Lee Harvey Oswald Wife

Marina Oswald Porter: The Russian-American Woman Who Lost in the Shuffle

Background and Early Life

Marina Nikolayevna Oswald Porter, née Prusakova, was born on July 17, 1941, in the Soviet Union. At the age of 19, she met Lee Harvey Oswald, a young American Marine, in Minsk, Belarus. They married shortly after, despite language and cultural barriers.

Life in the United States and Oswald's Assassination

The couple moved to the United States in 1962 and settled in Dallas, Texas. Marina remained largely unaware of her husband's involvement in radical political activities. In November 1963, Lee Harvey Oswald was arrested for assassinating President John F. Kennedy. Marina was devastated and testified against him during his trial.

Later Life and Seclusion

Following her husband's death, Marina struggled to adjust to life as a widow and single mother of two young children. She remarried in 1965 but divorced in 1971. For years, she avoided cameras and public attention, choosing to live a quiet life in Rockwall, Texas. She passed away in 2015 at the age of 74.

Legacy

Marina Oswald Porter's life story is a complex and often overlooked chapter in the history of the Kennedy assassination. Her testimony helped bring justice to the victims of the tragedy, but she also faced immense scrutiny and public judgment. Nonetheless, she remained a resilient and private woman who sought to rebuild her life amidst unimaginable circumstances.
